1. What is a Murphy bed?

   • A Murphy bed, also known as a wall bed, is a bed that can be folded up against the wall or into a cabinet when not in use, providing more space in the room.

2. Are Murphy beds comfortable?

   • Yes, Murphy beds can be just as comfortable as regular beds. The comfort largely depends on the quality of the mattress you choose.
      

Installation and Space Requirements

1. How much space do I need for a Murphy bed?

   • Space requirements vary based on the bed's size and orientation (vertical or horizontal). Typically, you need enough wall space for the bed's height and floor space for the bed's length when folded down.

2. Can I install a Murphy bed myself?

   • While some Murphy beds come with DIY installation kits, professional installation is often recommended to ensure safety and proper function.

3. Do Murphy beds need to be attached to the wall?

   • Yes, most Murphy beds need to be securely attached to the wall or floor to ensure stability when the bed is pulled down or folded up.
      

Functionality and Use

1. How easy is it to open and close a Murphy bed?

   • The bed is designed to have 95% of the weight handled by the pistons, which give a smooth and continuous opening motion.  The bed does not 'fall' open - it smoothly lowers to the floor.  This means nearly anyone (except a small child) can open and close the bed safely.

2. Can I use my existing mattress with a Murphy bed?

   • The bed can accommodate up to a 12" mattress. The weight limits are as follows:

     • Twin: 30lbs to 50lbs

     • Full: 50lbs to 65lbs

     • Queen: 65lbs to 80 lbs

     • King: 65lbs to 80 lbs

3. Do your beds require a box spring? 

   • ​​No. The platform is built into the bed to support the mattress.

4. What holds the mattress in place when the bed is in the closed position?

   • ​​The mattress remains snugly in place due to the side supports of the platform. However, we offer straps and/or a support bar which can hold down the mattress and any bedding you may wish to store on the bed when it's closed.

5. Can a comforter or pillows be kept on the mattress when it's closed?

   • ​​Comforters can be left on the bed provided that the combined thickness, including the mattress, does not exceed 12 inches. Pillows must be removed before closing.

1. Are Murphy beds safe to use?

   • Yes, when installed and used correctly, Murphy beds are safe. Ours come with gas pistons to control the bed's movement. 
      

Maintenance and Durability

1. How durable are Murphy beds?

   • Nashville Murphy beds are durable and can last for many years with proper care. Other manufacturers use lower cost materials such as melamine and MDF. Nashville Murphy Beds are made with furniture grade plywood and solid woods to ensure a product that will last for years. 

2. What kind of maintenance does a Murphy bed require?

   • Our Murphy beds require minimal maintenance, mainly ensuring the mechanisms remain clean and lubricated, and periodically checking the wall mounts and hardware for any signs of wear or looseness.

2. Are Murphy beds worth the investment?

   • For many people, Murphy beds are worth the investment due to their space-saving benefits and versatility, particularly in small living spaces like studio apartments or guest rooms.

3. What is the cost for delivery?

   • ​​FREE delivery, installation and assembly provided at no additional cost (within 25 miles of the Nashville area).  This means NO shipping fees. Other sellers can charge anywhere from $300-$500 dollars for delivery.

4. Do Nashville Murphy Beds have a Warranty?

   • ​​Yes. Though these beds are constructed to last decades without any maintenance or repairs, we feature a Warranty on mechanical hardware for 10 years.  The manufacturer of our hardware states that the pistons are designed and rated for 25 years of daily open/close cycles.  If you're not using the bed every day, this extends the life of the pistons substantially.  The workmanship of the bed is covered, but not the wood since it was not manufactured by Nashville Murphy Beds.

5. Is the mattress included with the Murphy bed?

   • ​​No.  Most of our customers already have a mattress or buy their own since the mattress comfort is a very personal choice.
      

Ordering Process​​​​

1. What's the process of purchasing a bed?

   • ​​First, contact us.  We'll discuss with you the best options that fit your needs.  If needed, we'll come to your home to measure your space and consult with you on placement and options.  Once you've decided on a model, a 50% deposit is required for us to begin creating your bed.  Once completed, we schedule a time to deliver and install your bed. Remaining payment is required at that time.  Once installed, we'll give you a short tutorial on the care and use of your bed.

2. What forms of payment do you accept?

   • We accept bank transfer, Venmo, Zelle, verified checks and cashier's checks. Credit Cards are accepted with an additional 3% processing fee.

3. How long will it take to receive my bed?

   • Depending on the design and model of the bed, it usually takes 2-3 weeks or 3-6 weeks, for more elaborate designs (additional shelving, upgrades etc...)

4. How long does an installation take? 

   • ​​The whole process can take 2-3 hours. If there are cabinets included, it may take a little longer.
      

Customization and Features

1. Can I customize my Murphy bed?

   • We offer recessed lighting, attachable LED lighting, connectivity ports, decorative moulding, desks, tables, customized stains and almost anything you can imagine - if it can be done, we're open to hearing your ideas.

2. Do Murphy beds come with storage options?

   • Yes, your Murphy bed can come with built-in storage options such as cabinets, shelves, or drawers, maximizing space efficiency.​
